Tokyo 2020 deals with pandemic

A dedicated coordination team has been assembled to define COVID-19 countermeasures to keep the Games in 2021 safe. It will ultimately define how the Games can go ahead.

Tokyo 2020 and the IOC are planning to communicate the strategy on how to deal with the consequences of the pandemic before Christmas.

The team has already met twice and still has three planned meetings.

In October the Athletes’ Village and the competition venues will be the topic of the discussion.

During the final meeting in November, spectators will be the main focus.

The coordination team has been closely examining sporting competitions held domestically and internationally for reference and ideas, like the US Open tennis, Japanese baseball and the J.League.

This coordination team consists of members of Tokyo 2020, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, International Federations, the World Health Organization, as well as other international bodies.

All eyes will be on Tokyo in December as we await the revised plan for the Games of Tokyo 2020one.
