Final stage for World Cup qualifiers

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal have strong hopes to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. Never before has the qualification process been such a tight affair.

In Europe, Portugal are the big favourites for their showdown with North Macedonia.

Wales’ Gareth Bale showed his class with two brilliant goals, but he has to wait until June to see if his team can finally book their tickets to Qatar.

Many big names won’t make it onto the biggest stage. Italy failed sensationally, Chile is also out. Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah are two of the best strikers but only one of the Liverpool legends will make his way to the World Cup.

Whether it’s in South America or further north at their CONCACAF neighbours, the qualifiers have turned into a neck-on-neck race. Over the next day’s hearts will be broken and others will rejoice – knowing that they have qualified.

The last remaining spots will only be filled in June but on Friday 1 April the eight groups will be drawn inside the DECC in Doha.
