7 matches in London, but Amsterdam also plays vital role
London may be considered to be the heart of the UEFA EURO next year, with both the semi-finals and the final being played at the Wembley Stadium, but for all broadcasters, Amsterdam will play a vital role too.
Four matches will be held at the Amsterdam Arena, and the Dutch Metropole will host the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), the epicentre of all broadcast operations. It will be situated on the outskirts of the city, in a quaint little village called Vijfhuizen (Five Houses), in a renovated greenhouse, found in between fields of tulips and vegetables. Expo Haarlemmermeer will be home to hundreds of broadcast specialists, while their colleagues are touring around Europe.
With technology progressing at the speed of light, the IBC will not play as big a role as it did in the past. Most broadcasters will still have a presence there, albeit with a reduced number of staff. With a high-speed bus stop located outside the IBC and rapid public transport in the country being well established, it would be possible to stay in Amsterdam’s city centre, which is about 40 minutes away.
Khaya will also offer selected hotels in the nearby towns of Haarlem and Hoofddorp, where our clients could house their IBC teams.
